the vibe

Spectrum is a placement game about things that actually matter. A theme appears with two ends of a scale. You each place yourself privately on a 1–100 slider. Everything reveals at once. The gap, the match, or the spread across the room — that's where the conversation starts.

Playful mode is for any group: social themes about preferences, tendencies, and relationship styles. Romantic mode is for people who know each other well — partners, metamours, kin — with themes that go somewhere more vulnerable. Both registers work the same way. The register changes what you're placing yourself on.

how it works

  1. 1

A theme appears with two ends of the scale. You see the full range and what the extremes mean. Place yourself privately on a slider from 1 to 100. Nobody sees your number until you submit.

  2. 2

When everyone has placed — or passed — all placements reveal simultaneously. You see exactly where each person landed.

  3. 3

For two players: a gap number and a short generated line. For three or more: a spread showing every placement on the track with one line that describes the distance. The reveal is the starting point.

  4. 4

Talk about it. Pass on any theme that isn't right for this moment. Tap next theme when the table is ready to move on.

a round in practice

Theme: how much physical closeness I need to feel emotionally present with someone (low: "proximity isn't connection" · high: "I need us to be near to feel near")

Claire places at 82. Loren places at 29. Edward places at 61.

The spread reveals: 29 — 61 — 82. Generated line: "pretty far apart."

Loren: "I can feel completely connected to you from across the room."

Claire: "I didn't know that about you."

They tap next theme.

2+ players · any size · game nights and gatherings · dates and date-adjacent situations · kin groups who want to go somewhere real · anyone who wants to know the people in the room better

one tip

Pass freely. Themes that feel too close to home aren't worth pushing through. The ones that do land tend to land hard. Give the ones that need space some space.
